During our November 5th meeting, St Albans Rotary hosted Kevin Chu from the Vermont Futures Project, an independent non-partisan organization with a goal of providing a vision that supports and encourages long-term economic growth for Vermont.
From the Website: “The Vermont Futures Project is an independent non-partisan organization with a goal of providing a vision that supports and encourages long-term economic growth for Vermont, providing data and recommendations to achieve this goal. The Vermont Futures Project will position the economy in the center of a statewide discussion about Vermont’s future, enriching that discussion with data, benchmarks, and research – demonstrating how a healthy economy provides opportunities for people and contributes to Vermont’s unique quality of life.”

Kevin provides an overview of Vermont demographics.  He noted that one of our staffing challenges is Vermont’s population is rapidly aging.  More that a fifth of our Vermonter are 65 or older and more than 35 percents are over the age of 54.

Vermont needs more people, and more people need Vermont.  One of the challenges is lack of housing across the State. There are many things affecting Vermont and with the information that Kevin has put together, it will provide us some basis to consider what actions that we will need to move Vermont forward.
